Paris-Nice Stage 5 Live Blog

Just waiting for The Roar to post the link.

Here are the updates so far:

Welcome on the 5th stage of Paris-Nice between Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Montagne de Lure, the stage that is expected to decide the race.

Bad news for Orica-GreenEDGE, Simon Gerrans didn’t start today’s stage. Gerrans had been suffering from bronchitis all race and he was having difficulty breathing, so the team decided to take no chances and withdrew him from the race.

We have a four man breakaway formed, with everyone’s favourite pro cyclist, Jens Voigt of Radioshack-Leopard Trek involved. Joining him are Thierry Hupond of Argos-Shimano, Cyril Lemoine of Sojasun and Paolo Longo Borghini of Cannondale.

The first climb of the day was the 2nd category Col de and it was won by Lemoine who took 7 points. Full results were:

1. Lemoine 7pts

2. Hupond 5 pts

3. Longo Borghini 3 pts

4. Voigt 2 pts

5. Tschopp 1 pt

Next was the first intermediate sprint in St Saturnin-les-Apt, with Longo Borghini taking the win. Full results were:

1. Longo Borghini 3 points, 3 second time bonus

2. Voigt 2 points, 2 seconds

3. Hupond 1 point, 1 second

The day’s second climb was the 2nd category Col d’Oppedettte and it was taken out by Hupond. Full results were:

1. Hupond 7 points

2. Lemoine 5 pts

3. Voigt 3 pts

4. Longo Borghini 2 pts

5. Johan Tschopp (IAM) 1 pt

Tschopp currently leads the Mountains Classification and took the chance to ride off the front of the peloton to grab an extra point. If they don’t catch the breakaway soon, he might be giving up the jersey tonight.

There have been two abandonments during today’s stage, Gianni Meersman of Omega Pharma-Quick Step and Gaetan Bille of Lotto-Belisol have pulled out.

If The Roar link doesn’t come up soon, i’ll start a Coverit session
